E is for EASTER

When it comes to holidays, Dustin tends to be really low key about everything.  He's your typical "put the Christmas tree up on December 24th and take it down once the presents are all open" type of guy.  And after nearly seven years of marriage, I'm totally cool with his perspective and the two of us have come to compromise on a lot of things.  For example, the Christmas tree can't be put up before Thanksgiving {for him}, but it can't come down until after New Years Day {for me}.

Easter, however, is a whole other ball game.  He absolutely loves Easter.  And, now that we have our daughter, he loves the holiday even more.  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Easter too, but it's not my favorite.

We always buy our daughter a new dress to wear to church.  We always do an indoor and outdoor Easter egg hunt, per Dustin's standards the eggs MUST be real.  We do not hunt for fake, plastic eggs in our household.  We also fill our daughter's Easter basket full of fun goodies that usually include candy, books and some bigger gift like a movie.  And we always prepare a nice meal to enjoy together as a family.

I'm starting to look forward to Easter more and more because I love that Dustin loves it so much.

Enjoy your Easter holiday this weekend!

  1. That's sweet. This is how I grew up too. Because hubby and daughter aren't church goers, we don't really do Easter. I miss it.

    1. Thanks for your comment.

That's too bad that you miss Easter. Maybe you can find a non-religious way to celebrate it? :)

  2. Emily - what a beautiful post, very heartfelt and touching. It brought forth some distant memories of when my daughter was a wee girl. I used to leave a trail, from her bed to her Easter basket, with jelly beans. I always had a little empty basket that she used to put them in...it was so neat watching her little fingers pick up those beans and then, once in a while, offer me one...ahh...they do grow up so fast.

Happy Easter to you and your family.

  3. I remember treasure hunts for the girls to find their Easter eggs when they were small. Makes me want to do another for them just for the heck of it :-)

  4. It rained a couple years ago at Easter, so we had an indoor egg hunt that year. It brought a whole new level to the game! We already take our egg hunting very seriously over here, and that just added to it!

  5. Happy Easter too.
Do check out my F at GAC a-z :)

  6. That sounds like an absolutely wonderful day. Enjoy!

  9. Greetings! It sounds like y'all have a great holiday tradition for Easter. I know that combining holiday traditions was at first difficult for my wife and I but over the years it's gotten easier and more fun as we keep old traditions and start new ones with our kids. It sounds as though y'all do the same! Blessings on your Easter! Have a great April!

  10. Fun! I bet Isabelle had a blast. Real eggs only? Do you guys dye them and decorate them too?

  11. I used to love Easter, but it's just not as fun as it used to be. These days, the only thing I really like about it is usually the weather.

But I bet Isabelle had such a blast!
