MUSIC mondays: SONGS i HATE to LOVE

As far as I'm concerned, the radios here in good ol' Salt Lake City are pretty horrible.  Unless, of course, you're a Lady Gaga fan and don't mind listening to her songs over and over and over again.  If you're not a fan of the singer whose outfits get more ridiculous by the minute, listening to the radio is usually not the right place for you to find good music.  {This is why I have the music from One Tree Hill bookmarked.  Seriously, a great source for finding new music.}

Obviously, there are exceptions to all things, and there have been a few songs that have stolen my heart that I first heard on the radio.  And, while each of them have been over played every single day since their release, they still manage to make me happy, and, more importantly, a place in one of my iTunes playlists.

Here are a few examples:

by Train

I love music that is positive and happy.  This song is definitely happy music.  The lyrics are adorable, and even though the song is about love it's not depressing.  If you haven't heard this song before, I'd like to personally welcome you to Earth.

I'm not a huge fan of country music, but this song is one that makes me feel good.  And, when music makes me feel good why deny it, right?  Sure, it doesn't hurt that I completely admire Swift and her amazing talent and the way she totally changed the way we {or at least I} think of country music.

Because this song was first released shortly after I graduated from high school, I'm going to blame my youth on why I love and adore this song.  Plain and simple.

So, there you have it:  songs I hate to love.  What about you?  Have any songs like this?

  1. I'm sad to admit that I was once a Lady Gaga fan. But once her newest cd came out, I recovered my sanity and moved on. (Seriously a meat dress? Really?)
Also? I am a closet Eminem fan. I get clean versions of his songs and add them to my workout playlist.

    1. I think Eminem is super hot. And I know a ton of people that listen to his music while working out. :)

  2. I pretty much love all of these songs. I'm a huge fan of Train, though. LOVE THEM.

    1. Ya, I can't get over Train's voice. It's sounds whiney to me. But I put up with it during Hey, Soul Sister.

  3. Hmmm, your comment about Salt Lake City radio had me thinking. Is it influenced by politics or religion there, or just another Top 40 market?

I like Taylor Swift and believe she's one of those few artists who can crossover into different genres. I saw a Yahoo article this morning about her but haven't had time to read it yet.

    1. Just your typical Top 40 Market. I wish they would expand their horizons and play more indie songs, but clearly there isn't enough demand for it.

  4. Perhaps it is Clear Channel Communications then. They seem to have bought up all the markets as the FCC would allow. You may be able to find your Indie songs from any local Pirate Radio peeps.

Barring the aforementioned, have you ever listened to online radio? There you have an expansive list of genres. One I would recommend would be Grooveshark. Best of all, it's free.

  5. I LOVE that you've turned to One Tree Hill to find good music! That was one of my favorite shows, although I sort of fell off watching it after Lucas and Peyton left...and now this is a comment on the merits of the casting of One Tree Hill.

Anyway, if you haven't yet, get Everything in Transit by Jack's Mannequin. His song The Mixed Tape is featured on the first OTH mix, I think. Such a great band. And we can totally talk more music later!
