Monday means "What the..."

Nearly three years ago, my daughter was born.  I was so excited to have a little girl.  Both my husband and I had wanted a girl, so when she was born, healthy and perfect, we were thrilled.

A few weeks after her birth, I was going to take her to church for the first time.  But, of course, she needed to be dressed for the occasion.  My husband and I set off to find a cute dress and something for her hair.

We found a dress with relatively no problem, although I was surprised at a lot of stores lack of inventory when it came to dresses for newborns.  Everything was too big, by a lot!

Next, came the task of finding a bow.  I thought this was going to be a breeze.  After all, everywhere I turned I seemed to always see a mother and her daughter with a huge-a bow in her hair.  We're talking, the bow the size of the kid's entire face.

I searched and searched and searched for a freakin' bow but couldn't find anything I liked, or that was big enough.  Where were these mom's finding all the gi-normous bows?

I felt like such a failure when my daughter made her spiritual debut wearing a size appropriate bow.

When she should've been wearing something like this.

One day at church, I asked a mom that was your quintessential "mom with the daughters that always have huge bows in their hair" about where she got her bows.  She proceeded to tell me she MADE them.

"What the..."?!

This was not what I wanted to hear.  This was suppose to be easy.  I was suppose to go to a store, buy a huge bow for my daughter and be done with it.  Not make the bow.  That requires craftiness and I'm just not crafty.  Put me in front of a computer and I'll take care of anything, but put me in front of a sewing machine or anything like that I'm completely lost.

Needless to say, my daughter still doesn't have any cute hair bows, but I'm determined to change that.  If you know of any good stores, local or online, that sell awesome, yet reasonably priced hair bows please let me know.

  1. Smaller baby boutiques will have them - and they probably make them. I will say that it is amazing what we moms learn to do that we never thought we could do before!! Your daughter is precious!!

  2. Have you tried searching on Etsy? I bet a lot of those crafty moms are selling their wares online.

  3. I usually see at least one kiosk at every mall that is selling hair bows. They have all sizes there. Etsy is another great site, or maybe it's time to start your hand at crafting ;) There are tutorials for everything, and it makes it a lot easier. Happy Crafting!! ;)

  4. Bows? SUPER EASY. You don't even need a sewing machine, just a tube of no-sew glue stuff from Michaels, along with a stretchy handband with nothing on it. Believe in yourself! You can make your own bows!

P.S. - Thanks for visiting me on my SITS Day!

  5. Em...seriously, if I can make bows, you can too. Hot glue is the answer! All the bows I made I did with hot glue...AND every single Halloween costume I made was with hot glue too. No sew is the only way to go! Etsy has cute ones too for pretty cheap. What kind exactly do you want? Oh, and hobby lobby in Layton has way cute ones too. They're more flowers than bows, but they have cute feathery things too.

Haa this cracks me up. Although I think huge bows are out, I prefer the smaller ones, or ones that aren't bigger then their face. I see them all over though. Sassy Babies, Bratz, even like target. But especially this time of year I bet you will run into them all over. I also find a ton off etsy, but again I go for the smaller, but...there is everything on there.

  7. I'm s glad you found the humor in this Megs. While I do want cute, not too small bows, this post was in part making fun of people who put HUGE bows in their daughters hair! :)

  8. I have never understood the ginormous flower/bow thing. Seriously, sometimes you can't even see the baby. I think small/medium hair things look much more appropriate.
